Awase Kindergarten Fall 1947 to Spring 1957 ** Takahara Okinawa
Nursery school and kindergarten was opened near awase in 1947. Awase was the second to open, the first being at Kadena. Legend has it that the nursery school and kindergarten was opened in a quonset hut in Takahara that doubled as the Masonic Temple. We have no direct or indirect knowledge that this is either true or false.
We have exactly one image scanned from a military publication from during the years it was open.
Okinawa University School Fall 1947 to Spring 1949 Awase Housing Area Okinawa
Awase Elementary School Fall 1952 to Spring 1957 Awase Housing Area Okinawa
After the Junior high and High School age kids moved to the new (at the time) Camp Kubasaki campus, the elementary school aged children remained in Awase. This school remained open and in use for several more years as Awase Elementary School. We are not certain the name of the school is 100% accurate. Different documents use different wording, however, they all get close to this name in differing ways.
Okinawa American High School Fall 1952 to Spring 1955 Camp Kubasaki Okinawa
Camp Chinen Kindergarten Fall 1962 ** to Spring 1972 ** Camp Chinen Okinawa
Camp Chinen Kindergarten, not so much is known except that it probably existed. Chinen was so secretive in those years and it was a really closed society. There was family housing at Chinen, and the bus ride from Chinen to Naha would have been long. It completely makes sense that Pre-K and Kindergarten were kept home, on the base. We have no first hand knowledge and no pictures of any kind. We have simply found references that it did exist and the knowledge that it makes sense. We assume the years it existed mimic the years Camp Boone Kindergarten existed.
We have no photos of this school, we would love to have a few!
Kubasaki Junior High School Fall 1964 to Spring 1972 Camp Kubasaki Okinawa
We do not have any pictures of this facility when it was known as Kubasaki Junior High School. It looked just like the pictures of Pacific Middle and Kubasaki-9. We do know it existed, when the Kubasaki Campus in Naha Port Wheel Closed, the Junior High Moved to Camp Kubasaki. It was split and renamed as Pacific Middle and Kubasaki-9 over the course of a few years.
