Photos and Information on the Awase Campus - Okinawa University School
Fall 1947 to Spring 1952
Names of Campuses at this location:
Okinawa University School - All Grades
Okinawa American Dependents School - All Grades
Even though the campus was an all grades campus, on paper there were separate principals for the elementary school kids and the upper grades kids. The terms High School, Junior High School and Elementary School were used in the yearbooks for the various classes.
So, Okinawa University High School, as well as, Okinawa American High School were both housed at this location.
When the upper grades departed this location in the Spring of 1952, it became Awase Elementary School and remained so, for several years.

Location of the Awase Campus
The Awase Campus (the second campus) of Okinawa University School was located in the far northwest corner of the Awase Housing Area from the fall of 1947 to the Spring of 1952. The elementary age children remained at this location after the Junior and Senior High School Students moved to a new location.
There were actually two different collections of buildings within the boundary of this campus. Typhoon Gloria destroyed the original campus in the Summer of 1949. For the Fall start of school, the campus was rebuilt.
The exact location of this Awase campus is noted on the below images.

Publications
This location was the first location that actually issued a yearbook. It was originally named "Torii". The name has never changed and the yearbook is still printed, annually, by Kubasaki High School, today.
Also, this is the location that published the newspaper with it's new name, the Typhoon. Originally, the newspaper carried the name "The Quansetter" which was changed when the school was moved to Awase from Camp Hayward.
Staff
There were two principals at this location. One for the upper grades and one for the elementary school aged children.
